Set in 4000 AD, when humanity has become dependent on robots. Magnus is a hero raised by a sentient robot to fight rogue robots. In 4 mini-stories (5-8) written by Jim Shooter, the series introduced the superhero Rai. In 4000 AD, Japan is covered by a giant computer, Grandmother, that became sentient in 3050. In the Valiant universe, Grandmother is protected by a series of superheroes called Rai.
